NORWICH - Ruth Hallock Obenauer, 91, formerly of Norwich and most recently of Dunnellon, Fla., passed away on January 12, 2008, in Ocala.
The daughter of Clyde and Cora (Martin) Hallock, Ruth was born in Colesville in May of 1916. She obtained her teaching certificate early in her life and taught school for a time. On June 26, 1943, in Oxford, Ruth married Frederick Obenauer, later relocating with him to Malone, where Fred worked as an optometrist. After Fred’s passing, Ruth made the move to Florida, where she resided at the time of her death. While living in Dunnellon, Ruth was an active member of the Dunnellon Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Descendant of Colonial Governor’s Society, and Descendant of Colonial Clergy.
Ruth is survived by her brother, E. David Hallock of Escondido, Calif. and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her friend and caregiver, Janet Egan, of Fla. In addition to her husband Fred, Ruth was predeceased by her brothers, Captain Theodore M. Hallock, Clyde Leslie Hallock, Jr., Francis Hallock, Dwight Hallock and her sister, Lois Griffin.
Funeral services for Ruth were held in Fla. in January. Graveside committal services will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Connolly, Pastor of the United Church of Christ First Congregational, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
