Joseph Oros
CINCINNATUS – Joseph J. Oros, 80, of Cortland, and formerly of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, while surrounded by his family.
Mr. Oros was born in Pitcher on July 29, 1927, a son of the late Julius and Rosa Torkos Oros. A lifetime resident of the area, he was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Cincinnatus. For almost his entire life, until his retirement, he, along with his brothers, operated the Oros Farm in Cincinnatus. He was a life member of the Cincinnatus Fire Department, a member of the Cincinnatus Lion’s Club, and served as a board member and past president for the Cincinnatus Central School Board of Education.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruthella White Oros, of Cortland; his daughters, Debra Hubbard of Cortland, Sandra Huntley of Cortland, and Donna Quinn and her fiancé, Brad Ziegler, of Red Lion, PA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Chad (Stacie) Hubbard, Shawn Hubbard, Meggan Quinn, and Joshua Quinn; his great-grandchildren, Caleb, Noah, and Cody Hubbard; brothers, Julius (Evelyn) Oros of Cortland, John (Louise) Oros, and Louie (Elaine) Oros, all of Cincinnatus; sisters, Margaret (Eugene) LeFevre of Plattsburgh, and Helen (William) Bowers of South Otselic; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela, in 1969, and a sister, Rose Burrows, in 1999.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heritage Hall, Cincinnatus, with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Cincinnatus Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
