NEW BERLIN – Martin L. Phelps, 51, of Skaneateles, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at his home.
Martin was born June 12, 1956 in Chapel Hill, N.C., the son of William & Nancy (Lyon) Phelps, who survive. He spent his childhood in the New Berlin area and was a 1974 graduate of New Berlin Central School. He attended SUNY Delhi for two years and then SUNY Oneonta for two more years. On Sept. 16, 1978, he married Tori Ann Phelps, who survives.
Martin is also survived by two daughters: Taryn Elizabeth Burress of San Diego, Calif. and Cassandra Lee Phelps of Pinebush; two grandsons: Ryan & Austin Burress. He is also survived by his grandmother, Harriett Lyon of New Berlin; one sister, Mindy Pope of Sherburne; and a niece and nephew, Jennifer & Andy Pope.
Martin was a chef for several restaurants in Skaneateles. He also worked for Crouse Hinds and volunteered at the Cortland County SPCA.
Marty was a baseball player during his high school years. He was a member of the All Star Team that played in Cooperstown, where he pitched a no hitter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:06 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, New Berlin with Reverend Charles Taylor officiating.
Interment will be at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, New Berlin.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.
