SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Joyce E. Currie Ray, 49, of South New Berlin, passed away early Wednesday, Aug. 2 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The daughter of Frederick G. and Pearl (Potter) Currie, Joyce was born in Norwich on Oct. 12, 1956. Living her early years in South New Berlin, she was a graduate of their high school in 1975. She spent most of her adult life in New Berlin, and had worked for the shoe factory in New Berlin, the New Berlin Quickway, Pathfinder Village in Edmeston, and had done private duty care as a nurse's aide in Norwich. Joyce enjoyed her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, and had a great love for horses and dogs, especially Pomeranians. She also enjoyed going fishing. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Norwich.
Joyce is survived by her step-daughter, Melissa Abrams and husband Rodney of Cooperstown; by her father, Fred Currie of South New Berlin; her sister, Melissa Thomsen and husband William of South New Berlin; and her brother, Frederick Currie and his wife Carol of South Plymouth. She is also survived by step-grandchildren
William, Dylan, Hugh, and Jessica Abrams; aunts and uncles, four nieces, cousins, and great nieces and nephews, and her Goddaughter, Cierra Thomsen. Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, from the Bible Baptist Church of Norwich. The Rev. Ralph Hinman, Pastor, will officiate.
Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Bible Baptist Church on Mon. from 9-11 a.m.
