AFTON - Norman D. McIntyre, 80, of Afton, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 28, 2008, in the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
Born in West Brookfield in June of 1927, Norm was the son of Francis and Bertha (Lamb) McIntyre. While growing up in Brookfield, he attended the Sherburne schools. Norm was a World War II veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Navy from June of 1944 through August of 1946. He was a 50-plus year member of Carpenters Union, Oneonta Local 258, as well as the Carpenters Union in Binghamton, from which he retired in 1989 to enjoy traveling and just enjoy life.
On May 25, 1962, Norm married Hazel Miller McIntyre, who survives. He is also survived by his children: Bill McIntyre of Windsor, Brenda Portz of Conklin, Michael McIntyre of Queensbury, Karen Sanyshyn of Brooksfield, Fla. and Thomas McIntyre of Glen Aubrey; his step-son in California; brothers Milton and Hubert McIntyre of Brookfield; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. Norm was predeceased by his sisters, Jean Case and Dorothy Ramsdell and his brothers, Russell and Francis McIntyre.
At Norm’s request, there will be no formal funeral services. Interment will be at the convenience of his family in the Hubbardsville Cemetery.
