NORWICH – Adelbert T. “Del” Lamphere, 45, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, June 20, 2008, at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
Del was born in October of 1962 in Norwich, the son of James Edward Lamphere and Mary Ann Shaw Lamphere. A life-long Norwich resident, he graduated from Norwich High School, then entered the work force, gaining employment first with Simmonds Precision, followed by the Norwich Shoe Co. For the past 18 years he had been employed as a site supervisor by Securitas Security Systems which provides security to the Procter & Gamble Facility at Woods Corners, a job to which he was loyal and dedicated.
A devoted husband and father, Del will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who had a heart as big as the whole outdoors. He truly liked nature, enjoyed his wild birds, hunting and fishing, and had a soft spot for his cats of which he had several. Even though the past few years of his life had been extremely painful, he would still put others ahead of himself and do anything for anyone. He was a die-hard Mets and Dallas Cowboys fan, and he had a special relationship with his mother-in-law Violet Dunham.
Del is survived by his wife, Crystal, who he married on Sept. 28, 1985; his children Allison and Nathan Lamphere; his mother, Mary Ann Lamphere; his brothers and their wives, Edward and Dianna Lamphere and Rodney and Elizabeth Lamphere, all of Norwich, and Nathaniel “Penny” Bowers, Jr., of Utica; and his mother-in-law, Violet Dunham and companion Paul Curnalia of Norwich. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law, Marcus Dunham III of Portland, OR, and Heath and Colette Dunham of Edmeston, as well as Paul’s family, Chris and Kelly Curnalia of Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho and Julie Tollens and husband Max of Greene. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends also survive. Del was predeceased by his father, James, and his father-in-law Marcus Dunham Jr.
Funeral services for Del will be held on Thursday, June 26, at 1 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Hinman, Pastor of the Bible Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 25, from 6 to 9 p.m.
