NORWICH – James C. Lothridge, 64, of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 31, 1941 in Norwich, Jim was the son of Floyd E. and Margaret (Christle) Lothridge. He graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1959 and earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clarkson University in 1963. His career began with General Electric Ordinance Systems in that same year.
In his 39-year career with the Submarine Launched Fleet Ballistic Missile (SLBM) Program, Jim worked as a Fire Control Test Director in General Electric (GE) Field Engineering at various shipyards and Navy facilities. Jim also served as a GE resident representative at Control Data Corporation and Hughes Aircraft Corporation in computer subsystem development. He was instrumental in the successful deployment and operational support for five generations of SLBM nuclear deterrence. He retired from General Dynamics in Pittsfield, Mass. in 2002 as a Lead Systems Engineer.
Known as “JC” to friends, Jim enjoyed traveling and sports and was an avid Red Sox fan. JC had friends throughout the U.S. from his travels and assignments. He was always available to help his friends.
Jim is survived by his brother, Thomas J. Lothridge of Bainbridge; his special friend, Linda McGuire Sperry, of Norwich; three nephews, William and Renee Lothridge of Chicago, Thomas Lothridge, of Auburn, and Stephen and Jenny Lothridge of Lisle; his aunt, Mary Tobey, of Afton and several cousins, Mary Owens, Dorothy Powers, Sally Mason, Ann Tobey, Irene Zablocki and Alice Morrall.
A memorial service for Jim will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
