MT. UPTON – Tofela “Gran” Zaczek, 94, of Deposit and formerly of Mt. Upton, passed away Wednesday morning, July 9, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Deposit.
Tofela was born on May 27, 1914, daughter of the late Konstanty and Theckla (Yankowski) Franskevicz in Kelsey. On Sept. 14, 1935, Tofela married Peter Frank Zaczek in Hancock. He predeceased her on Feb. 5, 1982. Together with her husband, they owned and operated a dairy farm. Gran enjoyed farming, gardening and flowers, as well as selling corn and conversing with the customers. She loved being with her family, and especially cooking dinner on Sunday’s and holidays, where everyone was welcome.
Gran is survived by: three sons and daughters-in-law: Frank J. and Peggy Zaczek of Deposit, Richard P. and Maggie Zaczek of Texas, Joseph E. and Linda Zaczek of Mt. Upton; three daughters and sons-in-law: Teresa and William Hulbert of Deposit, Rosemarie and Raymond Hillman of Mt. Upton and Margaret and Ronald Saylor of Lockhaven, Pa.; two sisters: Anna Mapes of Walton and Helen Andersen of Binghamton; 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law: Josephine Rillo, Helen Nurek, Jenny and Bill Gould, Victor Danowski and Annie Vandermark; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gran was predeceased in death by one brother, Edward Franskevicz; four sisters: Frances Benowski, Jenny Seaman, Mary Verry, and Nellie Danowski; as well as a life long friend, Frances Muller.
Friends are invited to call on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main Street Sidney NY 13838.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz. Burial will follow Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tofela’s name may be made to either the Mt. Upton Emergency Squad, Deposit Emergency Squad or to Broome County Hospice.
