SHERBURNE – Donald F. Jeffrey, 85, of East Street North, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center, Johnson City.
He was born May 9, 1923 in Sherburne, a son of Wallace and Frances Newman Jeffrey and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he served as a medic during World War II. On May 8, 1948, Don was married to Sophie Mary Blaszczyk in St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne. She predeceased him on Oct. 10, 2006. Don was a life long Sherburne resident and was the Superintendent of the Village of Sherburne Electric Department until his retirement. Don was a special person who greeted everyone with his unforgettable smile and was always a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He was a wonderful husband, dad and grandfather who maintained his good spirits throughout his illness without complaint. He was also a good friend who enjoyed visiting with his buddies at the diner.
Don was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church and a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Michael and Karen Jeffrey of Friendswood, Texas; Kathleen and Richard Barden of Greene; his grandchildren, Kelly and Russell Wark of Smithville Flats; Kurt Davis of Greene; Neil and Lauren Jeffrey of Pearland, Texas; Galen Jeffrey of Friendswood, Texas; a great-grandson, Jacob Jeffrey of Pearland, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Nora Jane Jeffrey, Charlie and Sandy Jeffrey, all of Sherburne; a very special sister-in-law and friend, Ruth Jeffrey of Sherburne; sisters-in-law Agnes (David) Barrett, of Sherburne, and Jessie Cieslak of Marcy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, John Jeffrey and a sister, Marilyn Jeffrey.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne.
Burial will be in St. Malachy’s Parish Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
