NORWICH – Ada Louise Miller, 86 of Norwich, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 27, 2008, after an extended illness.
Ada was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 30, 1921. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Helen (Kroegher) Bamberger. Ada began her journey of helping others by assisting the Red Cross during World War II. She then married her life long companion Joseph Miller, also of Brooklyn, New York. Joe and Ada moved from Brooklyn in 1970 and made their home in Deposit, where they raised their five children. Ada was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Deposit Chapter. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Ada enjoyed a career with the Bassin’s Department Store in Deposit for 12 years. She was a very dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She also played an active role in supporting the men and women during Operation Desert Storm by preparing and sending care packages to them and encouraging letters. In 1992 she moved to Plymouth, and assisted her son’s family by helping to raise her grandchildren. Ada did volunteer work as a Girl Scout leader and in later years she volunteered for the Sunrise Center for the elderly, and the Senior Citizens Center in Norwich.
Ada is survived by her family, Helen and Joseph Santamaria of Deposit and their two sons Joseph and Michael. Catherine Miller of Summerfield, Fla., Carole Miller of Orlando, Fla., Bruce and Carol Miller of Norwich and their six children Tricia, Jennifer, Jason, Timothy, Alyssa, and Sarah. John and Patricia Sotero of Ithaca and their three children, John Paul, Jennifer and David. Also surviving are her grandchildren’s spouses, six great grandchildren, and several close relatives from the Long Island area. Ada was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, Joseph Miller, her brother, Larry Bamberger and her precious baby, Joseph.
Calling hours for Ada will be held at Zacharias Funeral Home in Deposit. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 6 to 9 p.m. Her funeral will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Deposit on Friday at 11 a.m. Her burial will immediately follow the funeral at the Hale Eddy Cemetery.
Ada has expressed her wishes for donations in her memory to be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers.
