NORWICH – Charlotte L. Eagan, 91, long-time resident of Pleasant Street, Norwich, passed away early Tuesday morning, Aug. 2, 2006 in the Waterview Health Care Center of Purdy, where she had resided since May.
Born in Norwich on July 29, 1915, Charlotte was the youngest of four daughters and one son born to James and Catherine (Halley) Eagan. She began her education in the Norwich City Schools, and was a graduate of the Oneida High School, after which she attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She transferred to Keuka College from which she graduated with a BS degree in Education and Commercial Subjects.. During the next decade. Charlotte taught typing, shorthand, and other commercial business subjects, first in Carthage, then in the Sidney Central School system. In 1950, she became employed as an employment interviewer for the NYS Dept. of Labor, and worked at that job in Rochester until her retirement in 1983. For the next 15 years. Charlotte divided her time between Rochester and Norwich, until 1998 when she returned to Norwich permanently to live with her sister, Katharine. Charlotte and Katharine spent many winters enjoying the sunny south in Jupiter, Fla. Charlotte had most recently returned from Jupiter in April. Following Katharine’s passing in 2005, Charlotte relocated to a family home in Mahopac to be near her niece.
Charlotte is survived by her nieces: Sr. Mary Lynn Kellogg, Good Counsel Convent, White Plains; Betty Ann Bonacci of Aiken, S.C.; and Margaret Hebert of LaJolla, Calif.; and by grand nephews: Richard and John Eagan, and Stephen Hebert, and grand niece Michele Hebert Ingram. She was predeceased by sisters Anne Dutcher, Mary Kellogg, and Katharine Eagan; by her brother, Richard Eagan, and her nephew, James Eagan.
Mass of Resurrection for Charlotte will be held at noon on Monday from the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Paul’s. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to pay their respects at St. Paul’s Chapel on Monday from 11 a.m. until the service at noon.
