SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Floyd A. Youngs Jr., 68, of South New Berlin, passed away early Thursday morning, Aug. 28, 2008 at his home following a long and courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side.
Jr. was born in January of 1940 in Smithville Flats, the son of Floyd and Gertrude Primer Youngs Sr. As a young boy he and his family made their home in McGraw, Tully, Greene, Oxford and as a teenager on the farm at Plymouth Reservoir. On March 18, 2000 in Norwich, he married Oleta Peterson.
For the past 27 years, he has been employed by the Norwich City School system, retiring as the senior maintenance supervisor. A true family man who loved children, be it his own or the ones at school, Jr. would always put them first. He was a very private and quiet man who had a heart as big as the whole outdoors. A man who loved woodworking and carpentry, Jr. spent many hours working in his complete woodshop creating many fine pieces of furniture. He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time in the outdoors.
Jr. is survived by his wife Oleta of South New Berlin; his children Dean (Trish) Youngs of Norwich, Dennis (Janice) Youngs of Alton, Fla., Mark Youngs and his companion Roxanne Stone of Plymouth; his step-children Staff Sgt. Mathew J. (Valerie) Sutton of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., and Mason L. Sutton and his fiancee Raushanna Mumbulo of New Berlin. Also surviving are his grandchildren Matthew and Chad Youngs and their half sister, Adam and Molly Youngs, Alyssa and Megan Youngs and Makaio, Zander and Caden Sutton and two great grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, George (Gloria) Youngs of Kernersville, Ga., Robert (Phyllis) Youngs of Ten Mile, Tenn., Ronald Youngs of Toney, Ala., Ralph Youngs of Ritesville, Tenn., Walter Youngs of Oneida, Betty (Mike ) Simpson of Pennsylvania, Susie (Stanley) Collins of Niota, Tenn., Judy (Loyd) Boggess of Tenn., Ethel (Jake) Chandler of Valrico, Fla. and Duncan (Betsy) Youngs of Norwich. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides his parents Floyd and Gertrude, Jr. was predeceased by his brother William.
Funeral services for Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff McLallen of the South Edmeston Church will officiate.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
