OXFORD – John Brody Lobdell passed away at his home in Blue Ridge, Va. with his loved ones at his side on Sept. 17, 2008, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born on Oct. 10, 1972, in Sidney, and raised in East McDonough. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1991, attended Dean Junior College, and received his degree from East Stroudsburg College, Pa., in 1998. He was a well known high school athlete, college football player and avid outdoorsman.
The first and foremost loves of John’s life were his wife, Emma, and two sons, Brody and Mason. Emma lived in New Jersey and met John on a trip home to Oxford in 1998. They moved to Pennsylvania and then headed south to Virginia in 2000 where they started JBL Landscaping, Inc. They loved going on family vacations and staying at their camp at Lake Ludlow. John’s favorite month was “Rocktober” - the month long celebration of his October birthday.
Along with his wife and sons, John is survived by his mother, Sheri Lobdell, and stepfather, Howard Sullivan of Norwich; his father, Gary Lobdell of East McDonough; sisters, Mary and Jenny Lobdell of Oxford; in-laws, Linda and George Wiley of Oxford, Jean Ryan of Oxford, Amy and Rob Figueroa of New Windsor, Jessica and Ryan Stark of Binghamton, Allison Wiley of Norwich; grandparents, Winifred and Robert Lobdell of Oxford; aunts and uncles, Mitchell and Vicki Glover of Sidney, Richard and Candy Lobdell of Balston Lake, Greg and Karen Lobdell of Oxford, James Lobdell of Oxford; many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifetime friend, Nathaniel Emerson and family. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Norman and Marjorie Glover of Guilford.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Norwich.
