NORWICH – Norma Griffith Moonen, 86, a resident of the Gilmour Healthcare Facility, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
She was born on May 1, 1922 in Georgetown, a daughter of Claude and Evelyn (Andrus) Griffith and was a graduate of Georgetown High School in 1941. She had worked at the Gladding Corp. in South Otselic, and for Precision Castings in Fayetteville at one time. Moving to Earlville in 1963, she worked at the Earlville Paper Box Co. and for Colgate University for seven years. On Oct. 5, 1974, Norma married Robert J. Moonen in Oneida where they made their home. Norma worked as a secretary at Oneida Ltd. in Sherrill until her retirement in 1977. Robert predeceased her on Dec. 19, 1993. Norma enjoyed many hobbies including scrapbooking, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and reading. She spent countless hours knitting and crocheting numerous afghans to warm the hearts of those she loved. She was also a talented musician who played the piano and several other instruments.
Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Georgetown; and the Oriental Chapter O.E.S. #119 of Georgetown.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Robert Losee of Four Oaks, N.C.; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Harlan and Lynn Moonen of Verona; her grandchildren, Derrick and Debra Losee of Clayton, N.C.; Daniel and Brigette Losee of Sherburne; four great-grandchildren, Heather, Rachael, Paige and Daniel Losee, Jr.; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Norma is also survived by her many special friends and her Gilmour family. She was predeceased by two brothers, George and DeAlton Griffith, and two sisters, Claudine Fearon and Marjorie Henry.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne followed by interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Oneida.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service.
