OXFORD – Robert G. Lobdell, 86, of Oxford passed away on October 16, 2008 at Syracuse VAMC.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1922 in Irondequoit, the son of the late Gile and Genevieve (Oliver) Lobdell. On April 25, 1942 in McDonough he married Winifred Potter, who survives.
Besides his wife Winifred, he is survived by his sons, Gary Lobdell and companion Penny of Oxford, Jim Lobdell of Oxford, Rich and Candace Lobdell of Balston Lake, and Greg and Karen Lobdell of Oxford; his grandchildren, Mary Lobdell and Jenny Lobdell both of Oxford, Lorri Race of Norwich, Alicia Lobdell and companion Jamel of Elkridge, MD, Jessica and Jeffrey Lobdell both of Balston Lake; his sister, Helen and Richard Dillenbeck of Blairsville, GA and his great grandchildren, Brody, Mason, Maddy, Benson, Alexis, Zack, Lynnea, and Jayda. He was predeceased by his sister Betty Cole and his grandson John Lobdell.
Bob attended school in McDonough and graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was wounded in action on December 1, 1944 and received the Purple Heart. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a sales representative for Beech-Nut for many years. He was recently awarded a 60 year certificate for membership in the American Legion, currently a member of Fort Hill Post #376. He was a former member of the McDonough Fire Department. He served on the Board of Directors of the Union Cemetery Association for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Ralph Osborne, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, McDonough with full military honors provided by members of Fort Hill Post, American Legion.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Fort Hill Post # 376, American Legion, South Washington Ave., Oxford, NY.
