NORWICH – Lorene M. Wallace, 92, formerly of Chenango Ave., Norwich, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong Norwich resident, Lorene was born in Norwich in October of 1915 to DeWitt and Hazel (Bolt) Wallace. She attended the local schools, graduating from Norwich High School in 1933 and continuing her education in the Oneonta Normal School. Lorene worked as a substitute teacher for the Norwich School System in the rural schools in Pharsalia and Polkville, and was also employed for a brief time by a school system in New Jersey. Lorene’s deep devotion to children made her an ideal candidate for her last “job,” as house nanny/house mother for several families in the Norwich area, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Lorene is survived by her sister, Betty Jean Wallace of Syracuse, and by several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Roy Robert Wallace.
Funeral services for Lorene will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Reese, pastor of the Columbus Community Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
