Leslie Wilcox


 SHERBURNE: Leslie L. “Mike” Wilcox, 74, of Summit St., passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at home.
He was born May 27, 1934 in Erieville, one of 11 children of Edgar and Pansy Sternburg Wilcox. He attended Erieville and Georgetown schools, and then joined the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954, serving in the Korean Conflict. Mike was a lineman for NYSEG for several years, and from 1968 until his retirement in 1981, he owned and operated the Riverside Hotel in Earlville.
Mike was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Earlville Conservation Club. He enjoyed bowling at Hi-Skor Lanes in Earlville for many years, and golfing at the Mountain Top Golf Course in Sherburne. He was a family man and a “people person” who loved to sit and chat.
Surviving are his companion of 37 years, Susan Hadlock of Sherburne; a daughter, Margie Wilcox of Morrisville; a son, Michael Wilcox and Tammy Winton of Sherburne; four grandchildren, Douglas Gaudin, Jr., Joshua Gaudin, Jack Wilcox and Storm Wilcox; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie Graves of South Otselic; Ruby Watson of Georgetown; Elaine and Louie Oros of Cincinnatus; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lee Wilcox of South Otselic; Gene and Rosemary Wilcox of DeRuyter; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment with military honors will be in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815; or to a charity of one’s choice.
