NORWICH – Leona Louise Frink, 75, of Woodside, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the New York hospital Queens, after a brief illness.
The daughter of Claude and Emily (McCulloch) Frink, Leona was born on March 6, 1934 in Norwich.
Leona was a graduate of the Norwich High School, Class of 1952. Soon after graduation, she enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving at Lakeland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas and Stewart Air Force Base, Newburgh, until 1955. Leona moved to the New York City area where she had a 38-year career as a reservation specialist for Trans World Airlines. She enjoyed attending Broadway plays and musicals and visiting museums in the New York City area. She also loved to travel abroad, seeing the countries of Ireland, Spain, Egypt, Italy, Korea, Japan and Germany.
She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Sunnyside, serving as Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Altar Guild donating a portable altar set for use to those who could not attend church. She led Station of the Cross activities and was founder of a program to ensure every member of he congregation received a birthday or get well card when needed.
Leona is survived by her close companion, Peter Short; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Betty Frink of Norwich; many nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta (Carl) Law, Viola (Milton) Berka and Jesse Tucker Tuttle, brother John Paul Frink, nieces Sandy Tucker, Beverly Frink and nephew Richard W. Frink.
Funeral services for Leona will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the All Saints Episcopal Church, Sunnyside, New York, with the Rev. Joseph Jerome officiating.
Arrangements are with the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich. Interment will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Leona’s name be made to the Altar Vestment Fund c/o Reverend Jerome, All Saints Episcopal Church, 43-12 46th Street, Sunnyside, NY 11104.
