NEW BERLIN – Josephine Bell Hotaling, 79, of New Berlin, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 in Oneonta.
She was born Jan. 13, 1930 in Knoxboro, the daughter of John C. and Elizabeth (Schumaker) Vair. She spent her childhood in New Berlin. On April 1, 1962, she married Newton S. Hotaling. He predeceased her on Dec. 28, 1981.
Josephine is survived by her children: Newton “Newtie” Hotaling Jr. of New Berlin and Laurie Hotaling of New Berlin; five siblings: Robert Vair, Eva Ford, Fannie Pryputniewicz, Daisy Spina and Jesse Vair. She was predeceased by eight siblings.
Josephine was a cook and bartender at Newt’s Diner. She also took care of her son for 47 years.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP New Berlin with Father Alfred Babel officiating. The calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service, also at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Columbus Corners Cemetery.
