NORWICH – Grace A. “Gracie” Nucero, 88, formerly of Ross Avenue, died on Tuesday evening, March 24, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Gracie was born April 11, 1920 aboard the ship Reggia Calabria while enroute to the United States. Living in Norwich, Gracie worked for several years at the Norwich Knitting Mill and then at the Norwich Shoe Company until it closed. She returned to the knitting mill as an inspector and retired in 1983.
Gracie was a life-long member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and a member of the Rosary Society for over 50 years. She enjoyed sewing and in her younger years, Gracie loved to dance.
She is survived by a nephew, Samuel Nucero and his wife, Frances, of Norwich; nieces, Grace Ann Nucero-Alger and her husband, Randy Alger of Preston and Maria and Charles Cimanella of Pottsville; a great niece, Natalie Nucero of Panama City Beach, Fla. and a great nephew, Vincent Nucero of Norwich.  Gracie was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Leonard Nucero, and a sister, Sarah Thayer.
A Mass of Resurrection for Gracie will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Members of the St. Bartholomew’s Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
