NORWICH – William L. Cass, 74, of Campbell Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Francis House in Syracuse.
Born July 11, 1934 in Syracuse, Bill was the son of J. LaVerne and Doris (New) Cass. He graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1952. He continued his education at SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Brockport receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Following graduate work at Clemson, Cortland and Oswego, Bill was a teacher and coach in the Canastota school district from 1961 until his retirement in 1990. He served for two years with the United States Army from 1954-1956.
Bill was a Past President of the Canastota Teachers Association. He was also a member of the Civic Club and of the American Legion, the Elks and the NYS Retired Teachers.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Debra Brod of Canastota and his son, Brady Cass of Jamesville; his grandson, Kevin Brod of Canastota and a sister, Robyn Ratliff of Syracuse and a brother, George Cass of Paris, France. He was predeceased by a sister, Carole Tracy.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at a later date.
