NORWICH – Thomas M. Burns, 63, of Norwich, passed away Thursday evening, March 26, 2009 at his home.
The son of Lt. Commander Donald F. and Virginia Flandreau Burns, Tom was born in December of 1945 in Washington, D.C. and grew up there. He was a graduate of the Archbishop John Carroll Catholic High School. Tim lived in the Washington area until 1992, when he relocated to Norwich, and was a self-employed house painter in both locations. His love of model making led to many hours of patient handcrafting and working with blueprints, while he built the incredibly detailed ship models that graced his home.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Burns and her fiance Kevin Swatt of Arlington, Va.; by his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Condrill and husband Col. Donald R. Condrill, U.S. Army, of Centerville, Va.; and by his brothers: Donald Burns Jr. and wife Lesley of Maryland, and Stephen Burns of Norwich. He is also survived by his former wife, Susan Burns of Bethesda, Md., nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Tom will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from St. Paul’s Catholic Church, The Rev. Lester Smith, pastor of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church of Sherburne, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
