OXFORD – Mrs. Anne Louise Eckard Keating, 90, of Abingdon, Va., much beloved mother and sister, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, after a brief decline in health.
Mrs. Keating was born on May 21, 1918, in Denver, NC, to the late John Eli Eckard and Sallie White Eckard. She graduated from Oxford Academy in Oxford, NY and Albany Business College in Albany. Mrs. Keating was married to Michael T. Keating for 61 years before his death in 2003. Mrs. Keating lived in Charlotte, NC until 1973, when she moved to Land Harbors in Linville, NC. She moved to Abingdon in 2003.
Mrs. Keating enjoyed a rich, full life with her family, her church, volunteer efforts, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, reading and cooking. She was a delight and joy to all who knew her.
Mrs. Keating is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Eckard and Mrs. Sara Jane Harkey.
Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Martha Sue Cahill of Orchard Park, NJ; her children Nancy E. Keating-Harte and husband Joel S. Harte of Abingdon; Mary K. McMahan of Asheville, NC; Michael T. Keating, Jr., of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Brian Keating, Jonathon McMahan, Michael T. Keating III, Erin Harte, James Harte, LCpl Michael Harte; one great-grandchilld Christina Marie Keating; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In observance of Holy Week, a funeral Mass is planned for 9:15 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Abingdon with Father Paul Maier officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sherrills Ford, NC.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Easter Sunday at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Flowers are welcome or donations in memory of Louise E. Keating may be made to Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509 or at www.operationsmile.org.
