AFTON – Anne M. Andersen, currently residing in Binghamton, and formerly of Ives Hill Road, Afton, peacefully passed away on Sept. 18, 2006.
Anne was born in Binghamton and was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Vasil Dublock and her loving husband, Borge (Bill) Andersen.
Anne and her husband established Andersen’s Nursery located on Ives Hill Road in Afton and were owners for over 20 years. During the wonderful years spent in Afton, Anne was an active member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church participating in the annual Sharing of the Greens during the holidays. Also, she was the Girl Scout Chairman of Afton in Chenango County. After the nursery business closed, making way for Interstate 88, she moved to the Triple Cities area. She was employed by Hillside Garden Center and eventually retired from Sears Department Store.
She is survived by her children; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Joseph Dubiel of Norwich and Ingrid and Terry Thompson of Los Osos, Calif.; one son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Maryann Anderson of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; her sisters, Helen and Roland Colvin of Endicott, Susan VanWormer of Christmas, Fla., Lillian and Donald Fry of Johnson City along with several nieces, nephews and special friends.
One sister, Mary Tokos and her brother-in-law, Robert VanWormer, predeceased her.
The family will receive friends at St. Ann’s Church prior to the service at Main Street, Afton, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The service will be held at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. with Father Ralph Osborne officiating. Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that anyone wishing to express their condolences in a tangible manner, do so in the form of a memorial contribution to St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, Main St., Afton.
Arrangements are being made by the Dorothy Memorial Home, 121 Main St., Afton.
