EARLVILLE – Jean (Peptis) Marcellus, 79, of State Route 12B, passed away Monday, May, 11, 2009 at her home.
She was born April 20, 1930 in Sherburne, a daughter of Earl and Bessie Cole Buyea and attended local schools. Jean married Joseph Peptis who predeceased her on Sept. 9, 1966. She married Hubert F. Marcellus on May 4, 1973. He predeceased her on Dec. 25, 1997. Jean had worked for T.A.C.O. in Sherburne, and then for Simmons Precision in Norwich for over 35 years until her retirement. She enjoyed bowling at Hi-Skor Lanes in Earlville for many years, and loved going to the Turning Stone Casino. Jean was a loving and caring person who was devoted to her family, and was a mother to everyone.
Surviving are her children, John and Anna Peptis of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; Joseph and Rita Peptis of Schenectady; James and Georgie Peptis of Sherburne; Jerry Peptis and Bev Marshall, Juanita and Ike Thayer, all of Earlville; step-children, Mark Marcellus and Michael Marcellus, both of Earlville; Doug and Lois Marcellus, Donald and Elizabeth (Betsy) Marcellus, all of Hamilton; James and Leslie Marcellus of Vernon Center and Jerry Marcellus of Poolville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Pierce of Earlville; Sharon and Dick Bassett of Madison; Sherilyn Klaproth and Ken Perkins of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Becky Buyea of Florida; sister-in-law, Edna (Fink) Buyea of Norwich; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. A brother, Robert Buyea predeceased her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, followed by burial in St. Malachy’s Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
