Bertha Kelly


NORWICH – Bertha E. Stone Kelly, 62, formerly of Grace View Apartments of Norwich, passed away Tuesday, May 19,2009, in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital, where she had made her home for the last few years.
The daughter of Harold C. and Isabelle Warren Stone, Bertha was born in October of 1946 in Norwich and grew up in the Pidgeon Hill area of Plymouth where she also attended school. On Sept. 7, 1974, in Holmesville, she married James Kelly, and, together with Jim, she worked at the Community Workshop for several years. Bertha and Jim were a familiar sight on the streets of Norwich for many years, he in his chair and her walking with him. She was a long time member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church.
Bertha is survived by her mother, Isabelle Stone, and by her aunt, Anna Rindge, both of Norwich, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, on March 18, 2008; by her dad, Harold Stone, and her brother, Stanley “Buck” Stone.
Funeral services for Bertha will be held oat 1 p.m. Wednesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from noon until 1 p.m.
