SHERBURNE – Doris Mickle (Barnard) Newman, 80, formerly of Classic St., passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin.
She was born April 6, 1929 in New Berlin, a daughter of Frank and Mildred Bishop Mickle, and received her education in local schools. Doris was married to Robert Tracy, Alfonso Vellake and Wendell Barnard, who all predeceased her. On October 29, 2005, she was married to Edward J. Newman, Sr. in St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne. He predeceased her on May 2, 2008. Doris had worked for B.F. Goodrich (Unison) in Norwich for over 43 years until her retirement.
Surviving are a long-time friend who was like a daughter to Doris, Terry Bush of Breesport; two step-sons and daughters-in-law, Edward, Jr. and Alice Newman of Sherburne; Jim Newman and Carolyn Northcott of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; five step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday at St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne, followed by interment in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
