Patricia Wallen


NORWICH – Patricia Ann Wallen, 79, of 13 Howard St., Norwich, passed away Sunday evening, May 24, 2009 surrounded by her loving family.
Patricia was born on April 20, 1930 in Greene, the daughter of Cleon and Helen (Gates) Marshman. She was a graduate of the Greene High School and furthered her education by attending nursing school in Albany, where she earned her LPN degree. Over the years, Pat had worked as a nurse at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Norwich and in the nursery of Chenango Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1986 after 20 years of service.
An enthusiastic camper, Pat and her husband Fred were members of the Bullthistle Camping Club where she had held many offices. She was also a member of the South Central Camping District where she was a very active member holding the office of Vice President for several years. She loved to spend time knitting and crocheting, watching any and all sporting events on TV and watching the Food Network. Pat, when able, would attend the Norwich Assembly of God Church.
On June 17, 1951 she married Frederick W. Wallen, who passed away April 4, 1998. From that moment until the very last, Patricia was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Patricia is survived by her five daughters and four sons-in-law: Ingrid Marshman of Georgetown, Pamela and John Weyrauch of Catawissa, Pa., Francene and Scott Strong of Norwich, Terri and Robert Rice of Oxford and Maureen and Philmon Carpenter of Gilbertsville; her four sons and four daughters-in-law: Cleon and Linda Wallen of Nazareth, Pa., William “Will” and Mary Kate Wallen of Wind Gap, Pa., Keith and Debbie Wallen of Norwich and James and Julie Wallen also of Norwich. Also surviving are her 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; her sisters, Carol Charles of Norwich, Betsy Taylor of Gastonia, N.C. and Dani Paul of Carmel, Calif.; her brother Raymond Marshman of Harpursville and 12 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Patricia will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis McKenna, Pastor of the Assembly of God Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
