Virginia Cook


PITCHER – Virginia Ruth Cook, 87, of Pitcher, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009, at Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland.
 Mrs. Cook was born in Truxton on Sept. 19, 1921, a daughter of the late George and Gail Truman Sawyer. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended the Pitcher Federated Church.  She retired from the Otselic Valley Central School business office and prior to that, was employed at the South Otselic branch of NBT Bank.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Cincinnatus Chapter #387 and was a board member and past treasurer for the Pitcher Cemetery Association.
She is survived by her children, Gay (Steve) Boyer of Garner, N.C., Linda (Ron) Pintuff of Northville, and Alan (Marilyn) Cook of Pitcher.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Rob (Belle) DeLong of Springfield, Mo., Andrea (James) Morgan of Herndon, Va., Eric (Megan) Vandenburgh of Ballston Lake, Christina (Tom) Aiken of Taylor, and Isaac Cook of Pitcher; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Sawyer of Mohawk; a brother-in-law, George Staley, of DeRuyter; half-brothers, Sam and David Sawyer; half-sisters, Nancy Devine, Peg Williams, and Judy Enman; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaius Cook, in 1970, and a sister, Genevieve Staley.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 26, at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  Burial was in Pitcher Cemetery.
