NORWICH – Charles J. Robinson Sr., 89, of Norwich, passed away early Monday morning, May 25, 2009 at the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford.
Charles was born in Kelly, Wyo., on Jan. 18, 1920, the son of John and Harriet Ross Robinson. He grew up and was educated in Mt. Holly, N.J. During World War II, Charlie served with the United States Army as a mechanic. Upon his discharge he moved to Norwich, where he worked as a mechanic for Smith Ford. Following his work at Smith Ford, Charlie became a well known area master mason.
A lover of the outdoors, Charlie was creative and handy at fixing anything. He loved his family and was a devoted husband and father.
On Dec. 10. 1945 in Norwich, he married Olive Crandall, who passed away on July 15, 1994.
Charles is survived by his two sons: Charles (Lisa) Robinson of Norwich and David (Thelma) Robinson of Palm Bay. Fla.; his sister Virginia (Joseph) Hartley of N.J., four grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Olive, Charles was predeceased by his sisters Barbara Groves and Mary Riley and his brothers Jack, Joseph and Lawrence and a grandson Brian Robinson.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Services for Charles will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
