EARLVILLE – Viola Coon Jantzen, 91, of Stoddard Ave., passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Hamilton.
She was born March 12, 1918 in Great Bend, one of seven children of Rev. William A. and Viola May Johnson Gardner. She received her education in Adams and Pulaski schools. On May 21, 1938, Viola married Robert Coon in Pulaski. He predeceased her on Dec. 23, 1956. She married Paul Jantzen in Earlville on Nov. 15, 1964. He predeceased her on Aug. 1, 1968. Viola was a Pulaski resident prior to moving to Earlville in 1957. She had worked at Victory Markets in Earlville at one time, the Earlville Paper Box Co. from 1957 to 1960, and then Colgate University in Hamilton until her retirement in 1981.
Viola was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Earlville. She was a former member of the O.E.S. in Sherburne.
Surviving are two sons, Bert Coon and Brenda Aubert of Whitesboro; Lee Coon and Arlene Clark of Earlville; two daughters, Laurene and Robert Plows of Brookfield; Yvonne and Warren Tuzzo of Sherburne; a sister in law Betty Coon of Pulaski; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter, Roberta V. Warner in 2007, a grandson, John Coon in 2006, and daughter-in-law, Joy Diane Coon in 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, followed by burial in the Earlville Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
