NORWICH – Alan Robert Stark Jr., 67, of North Plainfield, N.J. and formerly of Norwich, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Born in April of 1942 in Norwich, Alan was the son of Alan and Norine Currie Stark Sr. He spent his early years in Norwich where he attended the Norwich schools. As a teenager he moved to New Jersey where he eventually entered the United States Army, serving his country from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1964. On Oct. 19, 1974 in St. Joseph’s Church in N. Plainfield, N.J. he married Cecelia Monzione Stark, who survives. While living in New Jersey Alan was employed by Public Service Electric and Gas Co. of Roseland, N.J. from which he retired after 35 years of service.
Even though Alan had spent many years in New Jersey his heart was always in Norwich which he considered home. Several years ago he purchased property in the Norwich area where he and his wife would spend time as they were able. He was an avid hockey fan, enjoying many games over the years, enjoyed country music and was also a blues fan.
Besides his wife Cecelia, Alan is survived by his mother Norine Button of Preston, his children, Elizabeth Burns of Raritan, N.J., Rebecca (Mark) Stanley of Guilford and Matthew A. Stark of No. Plainfield, N.J., his brothers, Terry (Anna) Stark of Oxford, Rick Stark of Norwich, Larry Button also of Norwich and Ron (Angelle) Button of Oklahoma. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Thomas Bums of Raritan, N.J., Seth and Shamyn Stanley of Guilford, seven nieces and three nephews.
Alan was predeceased by his father Alan Stark and a sister Shelley Cummings.
Funeral services for Alan will be held at noon on Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Ward, pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Oxford and The Immaculate Conception Church of Greene, will officiate. Interment with full military rites will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
