Peter Heggie Sr.


OXFORD – Peter J. Heggie Sr., 68 of Oxford, passed away on June 13, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich. 
He was born on Feb. 13, 1941 in Franklin, N.J., a son of the late George and Elizabeth (Coad) Heggie. On June 5, 1965, he married Gloria Van Tassel, who survives.
Besides his wife of 44 years, Gloria, he is survived by his children, Dawn and William Golden of Oxford, Peter Jr. and Cathie Heggie of Oxford, Vanessa and Stephen Young of Angier, N.C., and George Heggie and Shannon Bonham of Oxford; his sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Stoney DaCosta of Oxford; and his grandchildren, Kayla, Andrew, Sarah, Julie, Jackie, Cameron, Jonathan, Aleshia, Caitlin and Lindsey.
Pete graduated from Sussex High School, Sussex, N.J. He was drafted by the Pittsburg Pirates, but chose to enlist in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he began working for Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals and retired from Procter and Gamble. He was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed watching his grandchildren play many sports.  He was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. He was a hunter and really enjoyed trapping. He was a member of the National Trappers Association. He was a sports card collector and dealer.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Allen C. Lang, pastor of the United Church of Oxford, officiating. Military honors will be provided by members of Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
