NORWICH - Edith Crpenter, 96, formerly of Oneonta and most recently of Norwich, passed away early Thursday morning, June 18, 2009, in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home, Norwich.
Edith was born in Summerfield, Fla., the daughter of Frank and Mary Moulton Carpenter in May of 1913. As a young child, she moved to New York State and was a 1931 graduate of the Unadilla School. She furthered her education by attending Albany Business College graduating in 1932. Over the years, Edith had lived in Unadilla and Wells Bridge eventually moving to Oneonta in 1950. While living in Oneonta she provided private care for the elderly and attended the Main Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the church’s Sunshine Class. Moving to Norwich to be closer to her family, Edith made her home at the Chenango Valley Home and for the past three years at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home.
Edith is survived by her niece Jennie Carpenter of Norwich, her great nephew Paul (Janine) Carpenter of Norwich and her great niece Connie (Gary) Barnes, also of Norwich, She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry Carpenter Sr. and Benjamin Carpenter.
Funeral services for Edith will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich. The Rev. James Horton of the First Baptist Church of Norwich will officiate. Interment will be in the Geneganslet Park Cemetery, Greene.
There will be no calling hours.
