MATTHEWS, N.C. – O. Marie Conway Symancyk, 72, formerly of Endwell, passed away on June 3, 2009 after a valiant struggle with cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chester C. Symancyk and brothers, James and William Conway.
Marie is survived by daughters Lisa Meegan and Laura Mandell, brother P. Martin Conway and sister Ann Conway Koske; sons-in-law Kevin Meegan and Albert Mandell along with grandsons Brendan, Brian, Casey and Will Meegan.
She attended Westfield State Teachers College, Mass. and SUNY Cortland. She was a reading teacher with the Maine-Endwell School District for 25 years, influencing countless students. She was an Endicott Lioness, B.C. Open Volunteer and participated in the Free Read program. Friends in Broome County and Matthews, N.C. will miss her greatly.
A Memorial Service will be held at Laskowski Funeral Home, Binghamton, on July 11 at 11 a.m. Burial will occur at St. Joseph’s Polish National Catholic Cemetery, Westfield, Mass. A Mass will be said for her at St. Bartholomew’s at 9 a.m. on Nov. 28.
Gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society and literacy program or to the adult education at Broome Community College.
