GREENE – Gerald W. Westbrook, 73 of Greene passed away peacefully on July 1, 2009 at his home.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1935 in Honesdale, Pa. the son of the late Lewis and Matilda (Lillie) Westbrook. On Sept. 14, 1957 in Trinity Episcopal Church, Binghamton he married the former Carole Lynn.
Besides his wife, Carole of Greene he is survived by his son and daughter in law, Michael and Sue Ellen Westbrook and children, Hannah Lynn and Eva Elizabeth of North Norwich; and his sisters in law, Joan Westbrook of Seelyville, Pa. and Leota Westbrook of Starruca, Pa.
Gerry was raised in Seelyville, Pa. and graduated from Honesdale High School in 1954. He had attended Broome Tech in 1962. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1952-1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961 and received dental assistant training at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. He began his working career in Binghamton in 1954 at ANSCO as an errand boy. He was later transferred to the research and development department, where he excelled at all tasks assigned. His talent, determination and personality allowed him to build a 30 year career with the GAF Corporation, ultimately achieving the positions of National Sales Manager, Micrographics and Director of Manufacturing Reprographics. He founded Top Variety in Sherburne and along with his son operated it from 1986 until he retired in 2001. He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Greene. He was a former Boy Scout leader.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening. He helped his wife with her doll collection and enjoyed repairing the dolls.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Episcopal Church, Greene with Rev. Ralph Osborne officiating. Friends may call at Zion Episcopal Church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Home of the Wyoming Conference, 1182 Chenango St., Hillcrest, NY 13901.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 21 N. Chenango St., Greene.
