Richard E. (Rick) (Butch) Adams, 74, a life long resident of the Plymouth area, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, Nov 24, 2013, at his home.
Rick was born in South Plymouth on Aug. 2, 1939 the son of Nelson and Beulah Pinney Adams. He was a graduate of the Norwich High School and soon thereafter entered the United States Air Force serving his country from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1963. Returning home, he gained employment with Victory Markets where he worked for 24 years. At this point, Rick decided to attend BOCES and entered their Sous Chef (second in charge) course in food preparation. He then gained employment with the City Silo Restaraunt here in Norwich.
Rick’s life long passion was aviation. This was evident throughout his life beginning with his military time in the Air Force. He was a member of an organization which restored any type of airplane, especially old war planes. He and his wife would travel each year to Gilroy, CA, where he would spend 3-4 months working with the museum in Gilroy. He was also very active in the operation of the local Warren E. Eaton Airport.
Rick loved people. He was a long time member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, sang in the church choir and was a greeter for the Sunday services where he always had a smile on his face and was ready for a good conversation. Rick was a lover of horses, a volunteer fireman for the Plymouth Fire Dept. and an EMT.
Above all else, Rick’s family was his life. Throughout his children’s childhood years they had traveled to many places up and down the east coast. On Dec. 11, 1964 in Norwich he married Ellen Brookins who survives.
Besides his wife Ellen of Plymouth, Rich is survived by his children Randolph S. Adams and fiancee Mishele Randall of Plymouth, Terri D. Schneider and husband John of Fulton and Shannon Quan and husband Douglas of Temecula, CA. Also surviving are his brothers Larry Adams of Phoenix, AZ, Douglas Adams and wife Barbara also of Phoenix and his grandchildren Ridge, Brett, Dillin, Emilie, Jacob, Kylie, Ashley and Sara. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
