Stuart Washburn


NORWICH – Stuart W. Washburn, 62, life-long Norwich resident, passed away Monday evening, Aug. 3, 2009, in the Wilson Regional Hospital of Johnson City.
Born in Norwich in July of 1947, Stuart was the son of Raymond and Grace Dungey Washburn. He attended the Norwich schools, and had worked over the years for the Norwich Shoe Company, Pathfinder Village in Edmeston, the Gladding Corporation, and, most recently, for Chenango County in building and grounds maintenance. Stuart was an avid NASCAR fan who also loved to work on cars, and enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard.
Stuart is survived by his companion and best friend, Tena Schrader of Norwich; his children and their spouses: Aleta Washburn of Illinois, Tiffany and George Jones of Westtown, Terri Witt of South Otselic, Suzanne and Ed Heath of Norwich, Stuart Washburn Jr. of West Edmeston, and Priscilla and Josh Jones of South Plymouth. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Wright of Norwich and Laura Thomas and husband Bob of McDonough; stepchildren: Desarae Yothers and Jeremy Gulley; Toby Maxwell of Cortland, Ryan Schrader and wife Crystal of South Plymouth, and Derek Schrader and wife Brittany of Norwich; by grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; the mothers of his children, Gloria Washburn of Cadosia and Donna Gulley of West Edmeston; nieces and nephews; and close friends: Jeff Witt of Norwich, Shawnette Monday, and Donny Knapp. Stuart was predeceased by his daughter, Tammy Washburn, and his brother, Leslie.
At Stuart’s request, there will be no formal funeral services. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
