FRED NEWMANN
COVENTRYVILLE – Fred Neumann, 93, of Coventryville, passed away August 20, 2014, at the NYS Veterans Home, in Oxford, NY. He was born January 5, 1921, in Meyersville, New Jersey, son of the late George Michael and Emma (Fahrbach) Neumann. Fred grew up in Meyersville, where he worked in his families Ice business. He served in the US Army, Engineer Aviation Battalion, Corps of Engineers during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1943. He became a city bus driver, for the Public Service Corporation of New Jersey, and then began his career as a tractor-trailer driver. In the early days of big-rigs he enjoyed his traveling adventures, but refused work that took him away from home after he became a dedicated and loving family man. At times he worked second and third jobs, as a carpenter, handy-man or bus-driver, to provide for his family. On January 10, 1946 he married Marie E. Hendershot, at the home of her parents in Liberty Corner NJ. They settled in Basking Ridge, NJ, where they resided until April 1965, when they moved to Coventryville, NY, where Fred became a successful dairy farmer. He was a member of the North Afton United Methodist Church and served as a trustee. For many years, he also drove a school bus for Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Marie, in January of this year. He is survived by his seven children, Fred (Pam) Neumann Jr, of Coventryville, Susy (Jim) Quiggle of Guntersville, AL, John (Diane) Neumann of Eustis, FL, Joe (Lorie) Neumann of Coventryville, Judi Hall of Meridale, NY, Jim (Charlene) Neumann of Coventryville, and Frank (Dorene) Zimmerman of Oxford, NY; a beloved foster daughter, Diane Russell Brazee; 20 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside committal services will be held Saturday, September 6th, at Glenwood Cemetery in Afton, NY at 10:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the North Afton United Methodist Church. A lunch reception and celebration of Fred’s life will follow the memorial service at the home of his son, Fred Jr. Memorial donations may be sent for medical research to The American Heart Association or The American Diabetes Association.
