NORWICH – Richard W. Herrick, 93, of Norwich passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford. Richard was born on July 23, 1921 the son of Winslow and Theresa (Billings) Herrick in Norwich, New York.
Richard served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1944. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and served his country as a Cannoneer Loader and Rifle Sharpshooter. In February of 1945 Richard married Juanita (Smith) Herrick who predeceased him in 1997, after 53 years of marriage.
Richard had a passion for antique cars; many will remember him cruising around in his red and black 1926 Ford Model T Runabout. He opened his own business, Dick’s Body Shop where he performed auto restoration for many local car collectors.
Richard is survived by his sons, Scott Herrick and wife Linda of Norwich and Christopher and wife Arleen Herrick of Kershaw, SC, his grandchildren, Todd and Wendy Herrick, Desma Herrick, Anne Herrick, Mike Herrick, Lynnette Herrick and Kara and Kaila Lescenski and his great-grandchildren.
Richard was predeceased by his son s, Nick and Richard James Herrick and his daughter-in-law Joanne Herrick.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge.
