Richard F. Fowlston


OXFORD – Richard F. Fowlston, 82 of Oxford passed away at his home on September 18, 2014. He was born on October 25, 1931 in Oxford a son of the late Leon and Ruth (Hollenbeck) Fowlston. On December 17, 1955 in Aurora, NY he married Esther Stedman, who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Kathryn and Robert Lumpkin of Baldwinsville, NY and Carol Galletti of Cicero, NY; his grandchildren, Kyle Lumpkin, Meredith Lumpkin, Michael Latz and Justin Latz; his sisters, Jeanette Biermann and Joan Walling; his brother David and Linda Fowlston; and his sisters in law, Alma (Bridget) Fowlston and Betsey Miller. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was predeceased by his brothers, William Fowlston and Robert Fowlston.
Dick was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School, Class of 1950. He served in the US Air Force from August 1950 until July 1954, 2 years of which were in Okinawa during the Korean War. He was a service technician for Smith-Corona from 1954 until 1973. He then worked at the Raymond Corporation for 1973 until he retired in 1987. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oxford and served as an acolyte in his youth and also served on the Vestry. He was a Life Member of Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion and served several years on the Board of Directors. He joined the Independent Hose Co. of the Oxford Fire Department in 1950 and currently and honorary member. He served as secretary for the Independent Hose Co. and also for the Chenango County Firemen’s Association. He served 2 terms on the Village of Oxford board. He was an honorary member of The Lake Ludlow Club, where he also served on the Board and as Secretary. Since 1991 he and Esther have wintered in Winter Haven, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Main St., Oxford with Rev. David Hanselman officiating. Military honors will be accorded by members of Fort Hill Post # 376, American Legion.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St, Oxford on Sunday from 5-7 PM.
