SHERBURNE – Donald T. Buddle, 81, of Williams Rd., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at his home.
He was born Jan. 5, 1928 in Scranton, Pa., a son of Thomas and Ida Seymour Buddle. He was a graduate of Throop (PA) High School, and then Syracuse University in 1949 with an A.B. degree, major in Philosophy and minor in Psychology. He furthered his education at Colgate-Rochester Divinity School graduating with a Master of Divinity, major in Pastoral Psychology, minor in Church Music. On Feb. 6, 1949, Donald was united in marriage to Edna Fuller in Smyrna.
Rev. Buddle served as student supply minister at the Smyrna United Methodist Church from 1946-49, Pleasant Point (PA) four Methodist churches, 1949-50 and Sodus Point Methodist Church, 1950-53. His pastorates were the three Methodist churches in Chemung,1953-55, Attica Presbyterian Church, 1955-58, three Methodist churches in Marathon, as well as teaching at Sherburne Central School from 1958-59; Hamden Presbyterian Church 1959-62, Peru Community Church, 1962-69, Kingston Presbyterian Church, 1969-86, Canastota and Wampsville Presbyterian churches, 1987-91, Hamden and DeLancey Presbyterian churches, 1991-94, and as honorable retired pastor at Chesterfield (SC) Presbyterian Church in 1994. After returning to settle in the Sherburne area he joined his wife in attending the Smyrna Baptist Church as his health allowed.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Edna; his children, Patrice and Ronald Meckler of Houston, Texas; Linda Barber of Westfield; Barbara and Miguel Morales of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilson and Joan Buddle of Brockport, Rev. Duane Buddle of Saugerties, and Roberta Buddle of New Milford, Conn.; his grandchildren, Jennifer Lin Banschbach and Fred of Glencoe, Kent.; Dr.. Kelly Marie Larouere and Dan of Sanborn. He was predeceased by a brother, William Buddle.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Smyrna Methodist Church.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the church on Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
