ELIZABETH (BETTY MURPHY) GAY
WOODBRIDGE, VA – Regretfully we report the death of Elizabeth (Betty Murphy) Gay, in Woodbridge, Va. on August 20, 2014 following a long illness.
Betty was born July, 1935 to Louise M. (Franklin) and Matthew B. Murphy in the Preston area. She was a 1954 graduate of Norwich High School where she participated in sports and studied bookkeeping and business law. She loved to dance and she and cousin, Betty Law, spent many fun Saturday nights dancing at the Loomis Hayloft near So. Otselic. They also enjoyed fun times at family gatherings and reunions. Elizabeth served as Bettys bridesmaid in June 1958 before moving to the D.C. area where she was employed and met her future husband, Sidney Gay of W. Virginia. They were married Nov. 23, 1960. Sid predeceased her in March 2005.
Elizabeth is sadly missed by survivors including her brother, DeWitt and wife Cassandra of McDonough, her sister-in-law, Marjorie Murphy, nephew Luke Murphy of Norwich, several nieces and nephews, her cousin Betty Law and husband Del of Sherburne, Janet Byrne of Norwich and several other cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father in 1950, her mom in 1993, and brothers, Glenn in 1947 and Leon in 2004, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins, Arrangements and estate details are handled by her nephew, Luke Murphy of Norwich.
