MARGARET L. CAREY
OXFORD – Margaret L. Carey (Brigham), 86 of Oxford, NY passed away on January 4, 2015 at the Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY. Margaret was born on October 26, 1928 in Guilford, NY, a daughter of the late Floyd and Elizabeth Brigham.
She is survived by a brother John Brigham (Eleanor) and sister Dorothy Meloche; children Joan and Hank Scudder, Dennis and Tina Carey, and Leslie and Bryan Donley; Grandchildren Karri and Michael Beckwith, Robert and Kathleen Scudder, Jon and Jodi Carey, Kate and Seth Reidenback, and Ryan and Erika Harvey, Christen and Kevin Munn, Jessica Donley, Bethany and Brandon Onward; Great grandchildren Allison, Bradley, Kristin, Lindsey, and Kayla Beckwith, Corbin Scudder, Julianna and Delaney Carey, Parker, Ryder, and Tayler Harvey, Corbin Munn, and James Donley; Great Great Grandchildren McKenna Carpenter and Aubrie Baxter. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Robert Carey, a brother Burton Brigham, a sister Arlene Cummings, and a great granddaughter Hope Donley.
Following graduation from Oxford Academy, she married Robert Carey on the 26th of October, 1946. They began their married life on their farm located in Tyner. When she wasn't helping with the day to day operations of the farm, she was developing other skills, cooking, baking, sewing, and raising her family. She was very involved with the local Home Bureau. She was a long time member of the Untied Church of Oxford and enjoyed participating with the many church suppers. Following many years of farm life, they changed direction selling the farm and purchasing Oxford Farm Machinery, which they ran for more than 30 years. After selling the business, Margaret joined NBT and worked their for many years until retirement. In her limited free time, she made wedding cakes for many bride and grooms around the area. She was famous for making pies that were sold at the local farmers market and at local restaurants.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13 at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY with the Rev. Allen Lang officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetary.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 13 from 10 a.m. until noon, prior to the funeral.
