ROBERT M. GROBEL
NORWICH – Bob, 72, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015, with his family by his side, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on October 5, 1942 to Robert and Josephine Grobel. In 1961, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in it’s Strategic Air Command. He served his country overseas during the Korean Era and was honorably discharged in 1965. Not long after returning home, Bob met the love of his life Candy Long and later married her on April 29th, 1967. In December, Candy gave birth to Bob’s first and only child, Bernadette.
Bob spent his early years serving the community of Oradell, New Jersey as a law enforcement officer. He later had the desire to achieve a college degree and ultimately did so, graduating from Binghamton University with a Master’s Degree. He put his schooling to good use, mentoring and counseling the community’s youth.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Candy Grobel. Daughter, Bernadette and Michael Coles. Grand Children, Cheyenne and Shane Johnson, Megan Coles. Brother, James and Donna Grobel. Sister-in-law, Cyndi and John Gould, Colleen Cooper. Brother-in-law, Tommy Long. Nephews and Nieces. Tommy J and Ashlee Gould, Rachel Crandall, Chad Crandall, Chantel Crandall, Colby Crandall, Samantha Cooper, Savannah Cooper, Michael Cooper, Lynette Rumph, Duane Ingraham, Brian Cooper, Wayne Cooper, Mary Grobel.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Josephine Grobel, Brother-in-law, R.W. Cooper. Father-in-law, Thomas K. Long. Niece, Chelsea Crandall.
A Memorial Celebrating Bob’s life will be held at the Norwich VFW on Saturday, January 10, 2015, starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m.
