ROBERT L. KNAPP
SHERBURNE – Robert L. (Knappy) Knapp, 79, of Sherburne, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in the Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown.
Knappy was born in Norwich on March 17, 1935 the son of Frank and Leona (Marvin) Knapp. He grew up in several areas of Chenango County and attended the Guilford school. A long time employee of the Norwich Shoe Company, he had worked as a machine operator for the company over 30 years.
In his leisure time Knappy enjoyed his camping, which could have been anywhere even beside the road and his hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed a good game of pool and the refreshments that came along with it. Story and joke telling was also one of his favorite pastime.
On October 28, 1960 in Norwich he married Eleanor Mathewson who survives. Besides his wife Eleanor of Sherburne, he survived by his children Laurie Murray and husband Randy of Sherburne, Roberta Kerwin and husband Tom of Sherburne, Frank H. Knapp and wife Missy of Smyrna, Ron Moore, Edwin Knapp and wife Bobbi Jo, Kevin Knapp and Frederick Knapp all of Sherburne, his sisters Frances Ohl of Oxford, Olive (Betty) Tamburro of Sidney and Jean Mayne of No. Norwich. Also surviving are his grandchildren Chet, Stephen, Coral, Bruice, Rob, Joe, Wayne, Derrick, Darren and Katie along with 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Knappy was predeceased by his sisters Mina and Dorothy Knapp and his brothers Jim and Clarence (Clem) Knapp.
Graveside services for Knappy will be held from the No. Norwich Cemetery in the spring at a time to be anoounced. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
