GARY M. CONKEY JR.
COLD SPRING, NY – Gary M. Conkey Jr., 35, of Cold Spring, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at his home in Cold Spring. Born in Norwich on November 26, 1979 he was the son of Rubena Rogers Conkey Iversen and Gary M. Conkey Sr.. He grew up in the Norwich and Oxford area and was a 1998 graduate of the Norwich High School. Deciding to further his education Gary attended Lincoln Tech. in Allentown, PA where he earned his Associates Degree. Following his college education, Gary became employed with IBM in East Fishkill, NY where he worked as an Engineering Tech. for the past 15 years.
Gary was without question a guy with a big heart. He was a friend to all he met and could always be depended on. He had a soft spot in his heart for any animal especially dogs and kittens. When it came to sports the Mets were his favorite.
Gary is survived by his mother and step-father Rubena and David Iversen of New Berlin, his father and step-mother Gary and Arlene Conkey Sr. of Sherburne his maternal grandmother Charlotte Rogers of Stamford, his sisters Wendy Benedict and husband Daniel of Norwich, Michelle Ryan and husband Rocky of Oxford and his brother Andrew Conkey of Norwich. Also surviving are his 2 nephews Dustin Conkey and Daniel Benedict Jr., his niece Emma Ryan along with a great niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Dorothy and Stuart Conkey.
A funeral service for Gary will be held on Wednesday, January 21, at noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Button, Pastor of the Smyrna Baptist Church will officiate.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the service at noon.
