MALVIN ELDRED
GREENE – Malvin (Mal) Eldred of Greene, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2015.
He was predeceased by parents, Herbert and Carrie Eldred; brother, Robert and grandson, Keith William. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; children, Mike Eldred, Deb and Mike Podoliak, Wesley and Ginger Eldred, Carol and Keith Smith; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason), Kaci (Bill), Ashley (Chris), Jon, Mindy (Tony), Erik, Wes Jr, and Billy; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Logan, Carter, Will, and Bella; siblings, Janice (John) Carr, Shirley Detweiler, Arthur (Yvonne) Eldred, Donald (Ruth) Eldred, Barry (Cecilia) Eldred, Linda (Chuck) Safford; father-in-law, Lyle (Barney) Adams; nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Mal worked for Maxon Feed Store and he operated a dairy farm for 23 years with his wife and children. He retired from Chenango Valley State Park golf course. He was a past member of Dairylea Co-op and Greene Jaycees. He volunteered at Smithville Food Pantry and worked with the Cub and Boyscouts while his kids were growing up. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, taking care of the land and spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His passions in life were family, friend, and taking care of the golf course.
A memorial service will be held 1pm Thursday at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Root Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
