DORIS PARKER
NEW BERLIN – Doris Parker of New Berlin passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 10, 2015 following a short illness. Doris was 91 years old. Doris was born on February 21, 1924 in Amsterdam, N. Y. the daughter of Hugh L. and Bertha (Parkis) Knights. Doris spent her childhood living in the family mill in Parkis Mills, NY. She graduated as Valedictorian from Galway, N.Y. High School. Doris attended Syracuse University and Case Western Reserve. After graduation Doris served in the U.S. Army. She was a First Lt. stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. While living in Washington, D. C. Doris met her husband to be, Clarence H. Parker. They were married on April 22, 1954 in Galway, N. Y.
Beside her husband, Clarence, Doris is survived by her sister, Shirley (Paul) MacMillin of Saratoga Springs, N. Y. and her children, Susan Parker, Gwen (Mark) Haycook and Robert (Karen) Parker all of New Berlin: as well as her daughter in law, Marianne Parker of Chittenango. Doris is also survived by her grandchildren Sarah, Michael (Kelly) and James Parker, Justin (Brittney) and Christine Anderson; Benjamin, Bethany and Kurt Haycook and Jedidiah Parker; as well as great grandchildren Ava Baker and Joseph Anderson. Several nieces and nephews survive as well as her special pet, Shelly.
Doris was predeceased by her son, Les Parker in 2010.
Doris’ greatest loves were her family, friends and being outdoors. She and Clarence enjoyed their gardens, making maple syrup, raising cattle, growing Christmas trees and cutting their own firewood. They also enjoyed wilderness camping and backpacking in the Adirondacks.
The family would like to thank Dr. Karen Banks-Lindner and her staff as well as Hospice of Chenango County for their professional and kind care.
Private services will be held at the family’s convenience at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP in New Berlin, There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin or to Hospice of Chenango County.
