JOSEPHINE BIVIANO
Josephine “Noni” Biviano, 90, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 05, 2015 at her home.
Born in Holmesville on May 9, 1924, Josephine was the daughter of Giovanni and Mary (Mercuri) Mercurio. She attended the Norwich Schools before joining the workforce at the former Norwich Knitting Mill. After moving on to work in Endicott for the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company, Josephine returned to Norwich to work at the Norwich Shoe Company where she remained until her retirement in 1986.
Josephine was an active member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, working on many of the funeral luncheons, spaghetti suppers and festivals. She was also a member of both the Ave Maria Guild and the Rosary Society. She was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.
On September 20, 1947, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Josephine married Joseph Biviano. He died on July 27, 1997. She is survived by her sons, Joseph Biviano, Jr., of Norwich and James Biviano and his wife, Lettie, of Vestal; her grandchildren, Anthony Biviano and Bethany Sledziona and her husband, Mark, all of Norwich and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Gretchen Sledziona. Also surviving are two brothers, Steve Mercurio, of Norwich and Sam Mercurio and his wife, Betty, also of Norwich. Josephine was predeceased by three sisters, Edith Chase, Rose Miller and Carmela Hinckley and a brother, Wilson Mercurio.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm.
